That's just how we roll...

I have made an observation.

Whenever I go out with friends who do Bikram yoga, there is an extremely high probability that at LEAST one person will end up demonstrating standing head to knee in jeans outside a bar before the night is out.

Last night that person was me.  I was designated driver, so I was not drunk, and I was trying to make a very important technical point!!!

I was out last night with my roommate and a couple of new girl friends who I've met through yoga.  One of the girls had just finished her first 30-day challenge, and she seriously powered through it - she missed 5 or 6 days in the middle because she got sick, and ended up doing 4 doubles in 5 days in the last week.  Teacher-training style!!  Clearly, I had to buy this girl a Guinness.  We went to this really chill lounge on the outskirts of town that played Beatles music and gave you fresh popped popcorn with your beer.  Played 4 rounds of pool, told stories, talked yoga, all wonderful.  For some reason, once we stepped out of the bar (with the intention of going home), we REALLY got into the shop talk and couldn't shut ourselves up until we realized it was 1am on a weeknight.

The funniest moment was when one friend was trying to describe the problem she has in toe stand, and ended up just doing the posture on the curb in her jeans.  This feat impressed the HECK out of a group of 4 tipsy girls who were passing by.  They were pretty effusive with their compliments!  "Some kinda crazy gymnastics shit!!"  "In jeans!!"

Yep.  Yoga dorks.  Sometimes the yoga, it just... happens.  That's just how we roll....

I've done those sorts of demonstrations a couple of times, and always regretted it later. For me at least, the warm-up is absolutely critical. Now, if someone asks me to demo something and I'm not warmed up, I will do Half Moon or Awkward.

And if I'm feeling silly, I will do either Wind Relieving or Savasana (which I will tell them beforehand is the hardest pose in all of yoga, since I hear that in about 60% of my classes).

I demonstrated separate leg stretch and eagle at a barbecue once. Not in jeans, though. That's impressive.

Hee - yeah, I know, point taken. The young and springy can get away with shit like this, though. I can roll out of bed and do standing head to knee. Also, I'd been in class a few hours earlier. :)

I would SO dig a savasana demo. I've been saying for YEARS that I'll give 20 bucks to anyone with the balls to use savasana as one of their two advanced postures for championships.

Oh wow Dorothy, we posted at the same time. :) Eagle in jeans would be impressive for sure!!

The Beatles! I find it really interesting that the Beatles are so popular still. My daughter Keri has a their entire collection.

I have an admission, I kind of thought the Beatles were lame back when they were new. I was in 9th grade when they hit the charts in the US. That's about the right age for being obsessed with the latest Rock and Roll phenomena. I was more of a Stones fan. I still am.

But I just find it interesting that the Beatles still attract young fans. I mean I don't listen to Tommy Dorsey (from my parent's generation).

But we all listen to Frank!

Sinatra? (Hi Yelbs!)

There is some REALLY great OLD music. I was totally obsessed with Cab Calloway earlier this year. They don't make performers like that anymore. I also love Gene Kelly - *SIGH!!* And Charlie, I love the Stones too.

I have to tell you there has been more than one night that has ended by us doing a Triangle or Eagle in a parking lot! Just no dead body poses! All in good fun :) Have a great weekend!

Ah! Great timing this post! Mei and I went to red rock canyon today and tried several postures in jeans. Not a problem for little flexi Mei, but big problem for me! I tried and tried to do standing bow, but to no avail. Triangle? Impossible in jeans! Mei ended up snapping a pic of me in a very lame balancing stick. I promise to share! :)

Yeah, dead body pose would probably not be so great in a dark parking lot...

White cotton panties... and nothing else?? Yeah, that would not be a great idea.

Michelle - standing bow is one that I cannot do in jeans to save my life! Can't wait to see all the pics from you guys. :)

Oh, my god! I love this entry!!! I am NOT the only one who can't wait to demonstrate standing-head-to-knee in jeans at some odd moment. Going to TT Spring 2010, so I'll see you there! I'll be the one accompanied by a two year-old and a four year-old.
